Slow Winter Mornings at Home

There’s something about winter mornings that naturally invite us to slow down a little.

The house still quiet. Soft light filtering through the windows. A warm drink between your hands while the rest of the world slowly wakes up.

Lately, I’ve found myself leaning into these slower moments more than ever.

Coffee enjoyed in my favourite chair in the morning sun while candles flicker softly in the background. The comforting scent of warm woods, vanilla and soft spice slowly filling the room while the studio begins warming for the day ahead.

A quiet corner at home.
A quiet corner at home.

I think winter has a beautiful way of reminding us that home doesn’t need to feel rushed.

Sometimes it’s the smallest rituals that completely change the atmosphere of a space.

Lighting a candle while making the first coffee of the morning. Opening the curtains and letting winter sunlight spill across the kitchen bench. Taking a little longer getting ready for the day.

These moments may seem simple, but they shape how a home feels.

Our handcrafted coffee cup candles have become part of these slower mornings within my own home. Designed to feel warm, comforting and quietly nostalgic, they were inspired by the feeling of your favourite local café, slow conversations, warm drinks and homes that feel lived in and welcoming through winter.

Each ceramic cup is handcrafted locally by Black Shed Pottery in Waihi, which makes every piece feel even more special. I’ve always loved surrounding myself with beautiful, functional pieces that continue being used long after the candle itself has finished burning.

That’s really what Crafty Chook has slowly become about for me.

Not simply fragrance alone, but creating atmosphere within the home.

The soft glow of candlelight beside the bath at the end of the day. Room sprays used before guests arrive. A favourite mug sitting beside a lit candle on a quiet winter morning.

Small rituals that make everyday life feel softer and more intentional.

As the colder months settle in, I’ve been finding myself drawn towards deeper fragrances, layered textures, warm drinks and slower mornings at home. And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
